About us

The Senior Quality Manager (Energy Storage) role is specific to managing the quality of all Lithium-ion (Li-ion) cell packs made for and by Dyson. Reporting to the Head of Quality, this role is responsible in ensuring delivery of safe and reliable battery cell packs into consumers’ hands. This role requires engagement with Design, Engineering, Operations and Commercial teams for both products under development and those that have started production. The role includes supporting and assuring our Li-ion cell suppliers conform to our exacting quality standards. Extensive knowledge and experience of Li-ion cell production and associated critical-to quality activity is an essential part of this role.

About the role

  • Engage with external Li-ion cell suppliers and Dyson’s Commercial teams throughout the sustained Product life cycle to ensure the delivery of safe and reliable cells and battery packs into Consumers’ hands.

  • Build strong relationships with Dyson’s Energy Storage teams across all levels and sub-functions and provide all the required quality support and direction.

  • Assess and influence supplier strategy alongside the Supply Chain and Commercial teams to ensure robust controls are in place for cells and battery pack assemblies.

  • Ensure critical requirements are clearly captured in the respective cell supplier specification and contract agreements.

  • Coordinate and conduct cell Supplier qualification and technical audits.

  • Ensure cell Suppliers maintain manufacturing processes that meet Dyson’s design intent and have a robust Quality System in place, with rigorous controls for critical-to-quality items.

  • Analyse and identify critical process and quality controls that affect the safety and reliability of the assembly and ensure there is effective surveillance of the key indicators to assure quality requirements are being met.

  • Lead field failure investigations pertaining to cells and battery packs; ensure effective containment and corrective actions and incorporates lessons to be learnt into future products.

  • Assure that suppliers and contract manufacturers implement robust incoming quality, in-process-quality and outgoing quality controls in the production of Li-ion cells and battery pack assembly.

  • Provide day to day support and work closely with battery manufacturers and pack assemblers to investigate root causes and implement corrective actions to minimize yield losses (thus minimizing risk) in the production line and in market

  • Specifically for Li-ion cell manufacture and battery pack assembly:

    • Provide quality assurance for all new Li-ion cell qualification including assessing verification plans and results and DPAP activity

    • Facilitate and assess all cell supplier change management activity

    • Conduct active cell manufacturing surveillance

    • Liaise with cell suppliers when investigating field issues with cells and battery packs.

    • Support cell supplier development and continuous improvement activity to improve yields and cell quality.

About you

  • Ability to lead and motivate others to achieve outstanding results.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.

  • Language proficiency level 3 or better in Korean/Chinese/Japanese an advantage

  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and relentlessly drive continuous improvement.

  • Experience working on quality matters in design engineering and production environments.

  • Experienced practitioner of Quality tools and methodologies, such as: Critical to (Safety, Satisfaction, Reliability), FMEAs, Statistical Process Control, Control Plans, 8D/CAPA, 6Sigma.

  • Sound knowledge in ISO 9001/IATF 16949/ VDA6.3

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
