Our Energy Storage team is responsible for new battery technology that will deliver significantly better performance than conventional battery cells.

About the role

The Senior Quality Manager for Supplier Management is specific to managing the quality of all Lithium-ion (Li-ion) cell packs made for and by Dyson. Reporting to the Head of Quality, this role is responsible in ensuring delivery of safe and reliable battery cell packs into consumers’ hands. This role requires engagement with Design, Engineering, Operations and Commercial teams for both products under development and those that have started production. The role includes supporting and assuring our Li-ion cell suppliers conform to our exacting quality standards. Extensive knowledge and experience of Li-ion cell production and associated critical-to quality activity is an essential part of this role.

  • Strong engagement with Dyson’s Li-ion cell suppliers, Dyson’s Engineering and Commercial teams throughout the development and deployment of safe and reliable battery packs into Dyson products.

  • Build strong relationships with Dyson’s Energy Storage teams across all levels and sub-functions and provide all required support and direction when needed.

  • Assess and influence supplier strategy alongside the Supply Chain and Commercial teams to ensure required standards are in place in the cells and battery pack assemblies.

  • Identify and ensure critical requirements are clearly understood and captured in the respective cell specification and contract agreements.

  • Coordinate and conduct new cell supplier qualification, technical audits and follow up visits.

  • When needed, provide evidence-based risk assessments for urgent issues and decisions.

  • Assure that suppliers and contract manufacturers implement robust incoming quality, in-process-quality and outgoing quality controls in the production of Li-ion cells and battery pack assembly.

  • Facilitate, assess, and investigate all cell supplier change management activities through robust change management process.

  • Ensure cell suppliers maintain manufacturing processes that meet Dyson’s design standards and have a robust Quality System in place, with rigorous controls for critical-to-quality items.

  • Analyse and identify critical processes that affect the safety and reliability of the assembly and ensure there is effective surveillance of the key indicators to assure the quality of the cells being made. In some cases, active surveillance will be required.

  • Provide quality assurance for all new Li-ion cell qualification including assessing verification plans, results and coordinating Dyson Part Approval Process (DPAP).

  • When needed, lead field failure investigations pertaining to cells and battery packs; ensure effective investigation and robust corrective and preventive actions are in place. Incorporate lessons to be learnt into future products.

  • Provide day to day support and work closely with battery manufacturers and pack assemblers to investigate issues in production and implement corrective actions to minimize yield losses, thus minimizing risk of latent failures.

  • Provide inputs to and assure both Design of Product and Process have adequate FMEA and embedded Controls based on knowledge created by active monitoring of Product/Process performance in-factory and out in the field.

About you

  • Extensive experience in Quality and/or Engineering Function in the Manufacturing of Lithium-ion (Li-ion) Cells and Battery Pack Assemblies.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills. Attention to detail.

  • Self-initiator, motivated and able to perform under pressure.

  • Confident to influence and present to senior positions in the company.

  • Ability to influence and motivate others to achieve outstanding results.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and relentlessly drive continuous improvement.

  • Experience working on quality matters in design engineering and production environments.

  • Experienced practitioner of relevant tools and methodologies, such as: FMEAs, Statistical Process Control, 8Ds, 6Sigma, Cost of Quality, Project Management, TQM etc.

  • Sound knowledge in ISO 9001/IATF 16949/ VDA6.3.

  • Language proficiency level 3 or better in either Korean/Chinese/Japanese will be an advantage.

  • 30-40% travel required
