About the role
The design engineer will work within the Floorcare Research Team where they will apply their skills and experience to invent and develop technologies for the next generation of Dyson products. As part of the Research component of the RDD umbrella, we specialise in the most complex technical challenges and scientific discovery right at the leading edge of concept generation.
This role will play a vital part in aiding a team of research engineers to communicate ideas through sketches and product quality CAD designs, as we’ll as generating concepts themselves. There will be many opportunities to exchange skills with world-class mechanical, aerodynamic and electrical engineers for a highly motivated individual.
Initiate and own new product concepts from a blank sheet of paper.
Lead the team in advanced application and functionalities of 3D CAD.
Communicate ideas through sketching, CAD and model making.
Produce mechanical designs across a range of device types and technologies to deliver our product performance specifications while considering cost, manufacturing and time delivery.
Assist other team members and mentor engineers of all levels in your area of expertise.
Generate innovative concepts for new technologies.
Design, build and test prototypes as part of a technology development project.
Identify potential research areas which would benefit from new technology development.
Challenge and develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve design quality.
Define plans, monitor progress and report to management on technical risks.
Present concepts to the team and company leaders.
A creative and agile mind, and a desire to enhance your design and development skills in a fast-paced environment.
Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
An advanced knowledge and proven track record of CAD and strong grasp of mechanical design principles (Siemens NX preferable).
Knowledge of mechanical systems, materials and analysis techniques.
Proven ability to work autonomously with the responsibility to deliver to tight project deadlines.
Good analytical and problem-solving ability.
Persistent nature and an inquisitive attitude.
Good organisational skills - able to plan ahead and to prioritise tasks and co-ordinate with the work of others.
Experience of communicating and presenting complex technical content.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and self-motivated environment.
