About the role
Dyson has invested in a novel material technology, and we need to exploit it for a range of future product opportunities. You will join a team of multidiscipline engineers and mainly work on the material sector of the programme to delivery this technology to our next generation Dyson. The research engineer will be expected to take a proactive approach in identifying and evaluating new opportunities across the programme, particularly those lead to enhanced materials performance and processing methods. The role will provide the opportunity to access the state-of-art material processing and analytical equipment within Dyson and entail the development of new understanding and methods to enhance the performance, reliability and time to market of Dyson products.
Play a key role in the design and optimisation of the existing material manufacturing approaches to achieve the optimal performance at the lowest cost. Drive research projects, both fundamental and applied
Day-to-day work in laboratory environment. Creation and execution of the component fabrication and project delivery.
Previous experience in the material manufacturing and characterisation, particularly ceramic material is preferred.
Capable of working with other engineers in the team to build porotype components.
Drive research programmes through technology readiness levels, both fundamental and applied. Develop new understanding of the existing material system and explore innovative applications.
Analyse results, summarise findings and communicate to other members of RDD including senior managers and directors.
Liaise with downstream teams to ensure effective transfer of technology into the future product range.
A degree (2:1 or higher) in Material Science and Engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline.
Established knowledge and experience of the material structure, property, and processing relationship.
Experience with a wide range of characterisation techniques including some from: optical microscopy, SEM, XRD, particle size analysis, mechanical testing, AC spectroscopy and polymer characterisation techniques (such as FTIR, DSC and TGA) would be preferable.
Hands-on experience building experiment rigs, performing experiments and analysing data using tools such as Minitab or similar.
To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of projects.
Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format.
