Dyson develop products that are deliberately different and verifiably better than the competition. These solutions are increasingly complex and require closer and closer integration of traditionally separate engineering disciplines. We’re expanding our Upstream Robotics safety and systems engineering team to help us manage that complexity and ultimately get our new ideas to market sooner.
About the role
As a Senior Safety Engineer in Upstream Robotics, you will be working within a fast paced and exciting field with a dedicated inspiring workspace in a converted aircraft Hangar at Hullavington; focussed on developing products depending on advanced robotics and artificial intelligence technologies.
Within Upstream Robotics you will be a crucial member of a dynamic team to help specify requirements for and develop core technologies for our future products and embedded technologies. You will be working closely with other engineers, designers, scientists, specialists, downstream teams and other cross functional teams to create and develop new technology, product formats and business cases for projects in our portfolio.
Work at the core of our future robotics systems engineering team using systems engineering tools and methods to bring clarity from ambiguity.
Identify hazards, assess their risk and build safety concepts to effectively address them.
Create safety requirement specifications.
Conduct safety analysis using techniques like FMEA and FTA.
Use MBSE methods (where appropriate) to specify safety requirements and architecture.
Validate requirements using simulation, modelling and real-world demonstrations.
Work collaboratively with all our Robotics Research and New Project Innovation (NPI) engineering teams to clarify work packages, lead trade studies and resolve engineering issues.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of our safety systems engineering capability.
We need you to:

3+ years experience in a safety critical product development environment creating safety related work products like safety plans, HARA’s, safety concepts, FMEA’s, FTA’s and safety requirements.
Experienced in safety assurance and safety case generation.
A solid grasp of requirements engineering and system architecture.
Experience with functional safety tools like Medini Analyse, Isograph fault tree+ or equivalent.
Hands-on experience with simulation tools e.g. pyBullet / Gazebo, a plus.
Some experience building architectural models in SysML using tools like Sparx EA.
A good engineering degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline.
