About the role

This role holder is responsible for providing strategic sustainability leadership, challenge and direction in the area of Supply Chain labour practices.

You will set policies and targets demonstrating an exemplary level of passion, energy and commitment.

The role is to be an internal and external vocal advocate supporting Dyson on a best in class journey towards responsible labour practices.

Reporting into our Head of Sustainability – Supply Chain and as part of the global Dyson Sustainability team and will form the core supply chain thought leader team with specific focus on formulating policies and strategies related to labour practices in the supply chain.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Sustainable labour practices manager develops, manages, monitors and promotes responsible labour practices. Assist in the implementation of an end to end supplier due diligence process to promote responsible labour practices.

  • Define and implement overarching company sustainability strategies with regards to improving Dyson’s suppliers management of labour issues globally.

  • Manage performance and progress of strategies on Ethical recruitment.

  • Identify and propose concrete measures to reduce and mitigate risk associated with worker management especially in the area of Forced Labour.

  • Interpreting and translating international legal compliance related to labour practices in accordance to the requirements to Modern Slavery Act.

  • Stay abreast of the developments in ethical recruitment and how this is relevant to, or how it is translating into tools and practices at Dyson Supply Chain.

  • Carry out labour risk assessments to identify and prioritize the issues that are most important to suppliers and its stakeholders.

  • Defining both short-term tactical goals and long-term strategic goals, utilizing the wider supply chain implementation teams subject matter expertise and sustainability experience.

  • Monitor and report on emerging global trends and regulation giving directions to feed into future Dyson strategies.

  • Monitor and participate in external Sustainability thought leader groups, from leadership conferences to legislative committees and industry collaboration programmes.

  • Engage in and closely follow market developments with regards to labour issues in supply chain and update all stakeholders.

  • Be a subject matter expert and train, guide and mentor others in Dyson, disseminating knowledge, best practice and standards related to labour practices.

  • Providing insight from data, measuring performance and completing gap analysis against industry indices and best practice.

  • Aligned to Dysons High Performance culture, mentoring & educating the wider teams in opportunities & importance in the area of Sustainability.

  • Builds data and metrics to inform and support responsible vendor selection and procurement decisions.

  • Develops and administers Labour related training programs for supply chain workers, assesses training and development needs for suppliers especially Contract Manufactures. In addition, helps individuals and supplier CSER team to develop skills and knowledge in labour management, collaborate with suppliers to create training manuals, presents in-person training sessions, monitors training for effectiveness.

About you

Experience:

  • Experience working in Human Resources division specializing in management of labour practices.

  • Strong social /CSER audit experience and specialization in labour section.

  • Good understanding of the working conditions in supply chain and relevant associated risk.

  • Previous strategy or advisory role for human resource in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong experience in writing labour policies and human resource strategies

  • Experience of working in the field of manufacturing human resources influencing senior stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage change in an organization, including by seeking and generating buy-in, building culture and supporting stakeholders to engage with the program of work at hand.

  • Knowledge of and/ or technical experience in labour issues and relevant concepts and frameworks where appropriate

  • Strong organizational skills with a methodical and detailed approach.

  • An excellent understanding of key global labour legislation, policy and issues is beneficial.

  • Strong team working capabilities and an ability to be flexible.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence when interacting with others.

  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to apply knowledge to practical situations.

  • Strong organizational and numerical skills are essential.

  • Involvement with standards working groups/ trade associations/ external bodies.

  • Experience of working with external organizations, interpreting & managing labour risk at the manufacturing site.

  • Excellent communication and reporting skills and the ability to liaise, influence and motivate others at all levels within the business.

  • Experience of successfully implementing management systems and KPI’s.

  • Experience of understanding and working to regulatory policies, with further experience in influencing regulatory policy being beneficial.

  • Culture awareness: is sensitive to cultural differences that may occur within Dyson or within manufacturing supply chain and adapts style and behaviour as necessary.

  • Commercial awareness: ability to develop innovative and commercially viable solutions to ethical and environmental challenges in the supply chain.

Qualifications / Professional Memberships:

  • Educated to degree level, preferably in a relevant human resource/ sustainability/ labour law.

  • Demonstrable continuing professional development.

  • Having sustainability lead auditor certification will be added advantage.

  • SA 8000 certification will be added advantage.

  • Languages: fluent spoken and written English. Additional languages will be an added advantage.
