About the role
We are seeking to appoint an exceptional professional engineer to join our Prototype, Verification and Test organization (PVT) as a systems design engineer specialising in the integration of electrical, mechanical and software of control systems. In PVT's Test Systems Design team you will play an integral part in designing various industrial-grade special-purpose machinery and automated test equipment, facilitating fast development of world-leading and innovative commercial products. You will be responsible for the top-level concept and detailed design of this equipment, including writing specifications for the sub-system design teams or for outsourcing the design and make activities to our network of specialist external suppliers. You will ensure good equipment design occurs from an early stage by ensuring design risk assessments to EN 12100 are done promptly and involve the relevant technical experts to ensure that the solutions that you deliver meet Dyson's high safety standards and customer requirements.
The successful candidate will have working knowledge in mechanical or electrical design of test equipment or special-purpose machinery, and experience in integrating complex sub-systems in this environment. It is expected that you will have experience in managing requirements and flowing these down to sub-system design functions.

Produce system design concepts and develop these, working alongside other technical functions within the team to ensure the correct solution.
Provide clear specifications to other functions in the team, or to external suppliers, to allow development of sub-system designs (electrical, mechanical, and software).
Integrate sub-system designs into the final system design, making sure all work is documented to the appropriate level.
Contributing to the delivery of technical documentation required for compliance.
Work with the PVT team and external providers to deliver safe, efficient, and innovative test systems.
Use your expertise to innovate solutions to complex problems.
Excellent communication skills working to strengthen connections between members of the global PVT and NPI test teams to ensure test rigs are designed with compliance in mind.
Work with other members of the test team to tweak processes in order to get a good balance between compliance and rapid development.
Work with minimum supervision and influence others in the test development function to support the development of a high-performance team.
Degree qualified in a relevant science, engineering, or maths discipline.
At least 3 years of professional experience in mechanical or electrical design, with experience of integrating these.
Sound understanding of electrical and mechanical theory.
Experience of gathering, understanding, and managing stakeholder requirements.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and provide clear advice and guidance to a diverse audience.
Demonstrable experience of working independently and as part of a team.
Highly organised, with a consistent yet pragmatic approach to process implementation.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work independently.
Experience in authoring technical documentation.
Can do attitude, with a proactive and solutions orientated approach.
