About the role
This is an opportunity to drive Dyson's ambitious robotics research programme forward by planning, designing, and applying cutting-edge robot learning methods to solve problems in the real world, more specifically advanced domestic robotics. The role involves the research and development of systems for Dyson’s future autonomous and intelligent products. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary environment within a team of experts covering topics including Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robot Control, Mechatronics and Electronics, Human - Robot Interaction, all with the backdrop of a friendly and multi-cultural environment.

Be good communicators, capable of explaining complex concepts clearly and succinctly.
Work in a tightly coupled, cross-functional and multi-cultural team environment.
Work autonomously under limited supervision to achieve technical goals
You will be in charge of designing new algorithms for control of robotics platforms using machine learning methods
You will test the most promising ideas both on numerical simulators and on physical platforms
You will help the team in the design of comprehensive and cross-platform control framework
You will be expected to quickly understand the requirements and scope of the project, to propose effective solutions to the presented problems, and provide your contribution to prevent issues
You will cooperate with designers and mechanical engineers to obtain a control-aware design of the hardware
What You Must Have
PhD, or equivalent experience using machine learning applied to practical task on robotic platforms
Familiarity with mathematical tools for modelling and control of robots
Experience in sim to real transfer for complex robotic platforms
Hands on experience with floating base robots is recommended
Experience in C++ and/or Python for the control of real robotic systems
Solid background/experience in at least one topic in advanced control of robots such as impedance control, whole-body control, dynamic stability, state estimation etc
Experience and familiarity with ROS or equivalent
Experience and familiarity with Matlab or equivalent
Experience with agile software development for real robot control
