Simulation Engineer - Vehicle Dynamics - MBS Durability

Working in the Vehicle Dynamics department for a new passenger vehicle platform using simulation and virtual tools to develop the vehicle. Developing & running full vehicle simulation for Durability loads & Road Load Data


Core responsibilities:  You will be carrying out full vehicle MBS simulations to support the Durability attribute generating virtual Road Load Data and component loads though the lifecycle of the vehicle/platform. You will be responsible for generating vehicle models, developing/running desktop objective test simulations and correlating the virtual world to real world measurements
Working closely with the Axle development engineers to develop a full vehicle model capable of virtual road load data acquisition.  You will work with Chassis component engineers to define the physical test requirements for component parts.  You will define and develop the processes for Durability CAE to fit into the vehicle dynamics processes to achieve accurate and efficient ways of working.  You will be require to work cross functionally to ensure the simulation output fulfils the business requirements. 
Day to day duties: 
  • Build & maintain up to date and correlated vehicle models
  • Lead the definition of component characterisation procedures to support the model build
  • Develop Durability Test scenarios (quasi-static and virtual RLD)
  • Carry out Static and Dynamic Durability simulations
  • Presentation of results and analysis


Knowledge/skills/tools required: 
  • Proven technical knowledge and experience of Durability & Road Load Data
  • Proven Knowledge and prior experience with full vehicle Durability simulations 
  • Proven Knowledge of component characterisation requirements for MBS Durability simulation
  • Proficient in use of MSC Adams and/or SimPack
  • Experience in the use of Matlab

Experience required:
  • 5 years’ experience, minimum 3 years, Automotive industry / Tier-1 consultancy experience 
  • Proven experience of CAE correlation and validation and error-state resolution 
  • Experience of taking a program through virtual tuning to prototype build and to production will be beneficial
  • Knowledge of systems best practices, test procedure generation and attribute DNAs will be beneficial
  • Knowledge of active system integration into MBS models for durability analysis will be beneficial

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (other relevant engineering disciplines will be considered)
