Solutions Architect (Manufacturing)

This successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Solution Architecture. The role will require active participation in leading, defining and shaping the newly formed Solution Architecture Practice within Dyson IT Application Services.

The role sits as part of our automotive business, which is a greenfield deployment for our Electric Vehicle. This includes a new IT stack, of which the ERP is a SAP S4/Hana based on a SAP cloud platform eco system. The role will be responsible for the architectural design elements of our new automotive manufacturing facilities, which includes;


  • Understanding manufacturing systems & processes in plant from line feed to plant execution to outbound logistics
  • The role is focused on the use of multiple technologies to manage the manufacturing operations Additionally, this role needs to future proof our growing automotive business through the selection, implementation and optimization of best of breed applications
  • You will also need to contribute to / and ensure that the above capabilities fit with the SAP S/4 Hana ERP/MRP platform as well as our Siemens Teamcenter PLM.
  • The role will require interaction with external teams / contacts outside of IT to include;
  • Working with business stakeholders to understand business plans that might drive the architecture for the manufacturing & supply chain application landscape.
  • Communicating design decisions to key stakeholders to ensure the architecture is understood, opportunities for improvement are identified and delivery of the correct solution is achieved
  • Working with third parties and partners to understand future trends, innovation and opportunities for the manufacturing & supply chain application landscape.
  • Within IT the role will require the following; produce detailed design specifications, develop and maintain architecture models, technology strategies and solution roadmaps that articulate and guide application strategy.
  • Ensure adherence to the core IT Application Strategy and Design principles in alignment with Dyson’s own Enterprise Architect architecture
  • Work to ensure designed solutions move seamlessly into project execution and support


  • A proven track record of solution architecture is essential
  • Extensive experience in leading solution designs across direct manufacturing and logistics, with a working knowledge of automotive or similar OEMs
  • Experience of the full software delivery lifecycle and complex heterogeneous systems environments.
  • Understanding of security principles and policies ensuring these are applied to the design of solutions
  • Able to act as a liaison between technical, functional and support functions both on and offshore
  • Comfortable working in technical and non-technical environments and be able to traverse these with ease
  • Ability to stay informed of technological developments and understand their applicability to Dyson business problems and opportunities
  • Being able to put the business first and make hard decisions.
  • Ability to group point solutions into a logically ordered roadmap of projects.
  •  Desirable:
  • Solid understanding of software design principles and languages
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and approaches e.g. TOGAF, UML
  • Working knowledge of national/International standards and best practices associated with IT Architecture
  • A working knowledge of Siemens Teamcenter
