The Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology is unlike any other higher education institution. Our Undergraduate Engineers work alongside the Global Engineering team from day one. About The Role
The Student Support Manager leads a team of four Student Support Advisors (SSA). Each SSA works with one year group (between 35 to 45 students) to support the undergraduates to achieve their full potential and become the engineering leaders of the future. The role is varied and demanding, requiring SSAs to signpost, coach, support, encourage or advice depending on the circumstances. SSAs meet with the undergraduates in their cohorts at least once per month and organise workshops and other wellbeing interventions through the year.
As well as managing the SSA team, the Student Support Manager informs the vision for student support at the Dyson Institute, constantly looking to improve our offer.
The role involves:
- Management of the SSA team, ensuring the team has the training and developmental opportunities needed.
- Monitoring of student support activity to ensure objectives are being met. Reporting to senior management on student support KPIs.
- Build relationships with external agencies and suppliers as required.
- Build links with Dyson resources such as Dyson Learning.
- Provide input to undergraduate induction experience and support undergraduates in navigating their first experience of working and studying independently.
- Curate developmental experiences to ensure we support our undergraduates to fulfil their potential.
The Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology is new, highly visible and complex.
You must be able to build strong working relationships and work effectively in a rapidly changing matrix environment, and with key external bodies, to deliver your goals. An ability to operate with ambiguity and set a clear direction, demonstrating creativity and pragmatism, is essential.
You will be passionate about young people’s education, with high levels of emotional intelligence. You will have had exposure to the education sector (school leavers, apprenticeships, universities) and may come from a talent development, talent acquisition, education, or psychology background.
An ability to operate at a conceptual/strategic level is highly desirable, whilst retaining an interest in supporting the development of young people directly as they adapt to work and higher education for the first time.
