Technology Scouting Lead

Whilst Dyson has an in-house team of over 3000 engineers and scientists research, design and develop the breakthrough technologies and products which continue to propel Dyson’ growth, there is a growing need to collaborate with external companies and universities, who have expertise which is complimentary to Dyson’s. 
Dyson is growing it’s team of technology scouts, who are tasked with accessing new technologies, through establishing collaborations with Universities, SME’s, and also larger organisations. These collaborations range from joint development and licensing agreements, through to acquisitions. With a presence in the EU, US, and Israel, Dyson is now establishing a Technology Scouting presence in Singapore, and are recruiting for the role of Technology Scouting Lead (Singapore) reporting in to the Technology Scouting Director. 
The role is based in Singapore, with some international travel required to peruse opportunities across the region. The role is both technical and commercial, with responsibility for identifying and appraising new technologies that will help enable world beating products. The right candidate will have a strong scientific / engineering background, and an ability to assess opportunities across a broad range of technology fields. Commercial acumen and strong relationship building skills are vital to ensure that ‘win-win’ terms are negotiated in securing collaboration agreements. Initiative, gravitas, and a highly professional approach are vital in this role, which will be representing Dyson at the most senior levels to small, medium and very large organisations.


  • Establish a pipeline of technology opportunities, which are aligned with Dyson’s product and technology roadmaps. With a combination of technical insight, and commercial acumen, identify opportunities with potential to enable ‘winning’ products
  • In collaboration with Dyson technology teams, make assessment of technologies in order to identify and down select to the most promising technologies 
  • Facilitate introductions and demonstrations, in order to ‘bring to life’ new technologies to Dyson stakeholders Facilitate technical and commercial diligence, in order validate technologies 

Collaboration and teamwork
  • Establish highly collaborative relationships with all Dyson teams which interact with the Technology Scouting
  • Establish strong relationships with relevant technology companies, academic organisations, and the Government 

Communication and Reporting 
  • Clear, concise, and objective communication and reporting on the status of the activity of Technology Scouting team
  • Establish, maintain, and report key metrics that objectively measure progress


Experience and Qualifications
  • It is likely that the right candidate will have a deep level of expertise in specific field(s), combined with a breadth of understanding of science and technology, which enables them to assess technologies across a range of fields and applications. 
  • Experience of the Singapore research institutes and other government organisations associated with new technologies is very desirable. These networks and relationships will enable the rapid establishment and expansion of Technology Scouting activity in Singapore
