Senior Technician - NPI

Overview of the role:

About the role

As a Senior Technician within New Product Innovation (NPI) you will be a key member of a dynamic team exploring new product and technology concepts ready for deployment into our development teams. You will be working closely with NPI engineers, Research specialists and downstream RDD teams to help create and develop new technology, product formats, labs and test methods within our portfolio.

What we need you to do…

  • As a Senior Technician, you will work with the Design Engineers to often tackle “blank sheet of paper” problems.
  • Take responsibility for designing and building new test rigs or lab equipment working alongside the Design Engineers.
  • Champion best practice in terms of test campaigns; coordinating and conducting early investigative testing and ensuring a consistency in quality.
  • Become familiar with the wide range of test methods and equipment available for use within Dyson with the potential to become the team’s expert in test capabilities and process.
  • Hands on assistance in prototype rig builds where required; some fabrication or build coordination experience an advantage.
  • Potential for taking ownership of a lab space; ensuring correct health and safety standards are adhered to and responsible to day-to-day operations.
  • Take an active role in brainstorms within the team

About you

  • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Engineering, or other relevant discipline, or a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry.
  • A good Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work (HASAW)
  • Experience in handling and working with prototypes.
  • Ability to efficiently plan, organise and manage own workload according to top level briefs
  • Ability to react and respond positively to changes in priority and workload
  • Capable of working individually or as a member of a small team
  • Accurate with very good attention to detail
  • Experience within a test lab environment an advantage
  • Experience with Electronics and mains voltage wiring and associated safety requirements an advantage.
  • Experience using workshop facilities to fabricate and construct test rigs and prototypes highly desirable.
