UK 2022 Design & Mechanical Engineering Graduates (NPD)

Graduates, Interns and Apprentices
United Kingdom - Malmesbury Office

About us

We are driven by progress and thrive on the challenge of relentless improvement. We’re growing fast and our ambition is huge – more categories, more locations and more people.

Our Design Engineering team takes radical new technologies and integrates them into a complete product, ready to launch. Working collaboratively with engineering teams across our UK and South East Asia sites, solutions are matured whilst developing new ways to test and evaluate performance to accurately position our technology against our competition. Design Engineering is our realisation centre where new ideas are developed into fully productionised solutions.

We are encouraged to think differently, be unafraid to make mistakes and get hands on to prove our technology from concept to manufacture. By joining our world class Research Design and Development department, you will work alongside other leading technical specialists and highly motivated creative people.

Join us as graduate and from day one you will be assigned to a live project, influencing the evolution of Dyson technology.

About the role

As a Graduate Design or Mechanical Engineer, you will be sketching, prototyping, testing, failing and refining to deliver the high standards of product development Dyson is known for, working on ideas that will transform markets.

You will need to be thoroughly hands on, practically applying your technical knowledge with a creative flair to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly.

When you join, you will be expected to hit the ground running on one of Dyson’s many live projects. Working as part of a larger project team, you’ll have your own set of project deliverables and the chance to take ownership of how these are achieved.

Some of your tasks could include:

  • Understanding, creating, reviewing requirements with stakeholders

  • Using creative problem solving to produce effective design solutions

  • Designing and building proof-of-principle rigs

  • Hand-producing prototypes

  • Developing mechanical parts, assemblies and systems from concept to production.

  • Testing & analysing prototypes to validate design decisions

  • Defining product specifications and supporting justifications

  • Designing experiments and necessary rigs/fixtures for component and system characterisation and validation.

The teams collaborate with Research specialists, downstream RDD teams along with a range of satellite teams to form complete concept proposals and business cases that can be presented to executive stakeholders, including James and Jake Dyson. You’ll be comfortable learning from others, but also sharing your own knowledge, ideas and opinions.

As well as your line manager to help you along the way, you’ll be supported with a development framework designed to provide the technical and commercial know-how to help you drive your Dyson career.
