At Dyson we demand the highest standard of performance from the technologies we engineer. Our people expect the same from the technology that supports them. We are a community that appreciates and advocates better engineering. A community of pioneers.
Our IT team’s aim is to create robust architecture, to manage data effectively and efficiently and to continue to grow our world-class team. Join us as an intern and from day one, you’ll be tasked with projects to enhance your existing skills and stretch you out of your comfort zone.
At our UK Technology Campus, we have an opportunity for a 12-month year in industry (starting in the September 2022), for penultimate year students who are eager to play a key part in bringing the next generation of Dyson technology to the world.
About the role
This role offers the opportunity to work as part of the IT Digital Business Technology team. The team works closely with Business Stakeholders to deliver high quality continuous improvement across our IT systems and business solutions. You will have the opportunity to see how different teams across IT collaborate to deliver outcomes for the business as well as gain experience of how delivery works within the IT industry.
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of core Project Management techniques by actively carrying out the following activities whilst working towards greater independence over the course of your internship.
Working with a Senior Project Manager or Programme Manager to support the delivery of complex project and programmes by defining scope and mobilising a new project or workstream
Building your stakeholder management skills by working with a wide range of teams across IT and the wider business as well as with our 3rd party delivery partners.
Developing your ability to build robust project plans that take into account dependencies and delivery constraints and then to track progress against your plan
Enhancing your knowledge of key project controls by establishing and managing project RAIDD logs (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies and Decisions)
Learning how to build estimates as part of business case definition and then profiling and forecasting project budgets and tracking actual performance against the budget.
Ensuring the quality of delivery by working with our QA service and the business users to manage the delivery of solution testing as well as co-ordinating defect management
Attending meetings and documenting minutes, communicating these in a timely manner
Maintaining tickets within Jira to ensure they actively represent the status
Working with the team and interacting across business stakeholders, you’ll need to be comfortable learning from others, but also sharing your own knowledge, ideas and opinions. Apart from the technical know-how, you will need to be an inquisitive self-starter who is passionate about learning and creative in problem solving.
For the duration of your internship, you will have regular performance conversations as well as opportunities for development to enable you to build your reputation within the team, and this could be just the start. We’ll be looking to offer our high performing interns to return on our graduate programme.
Working at the forefront of technology is tough so standards and expectations are high. You’ll be contributing to live projects from the start, so you’ll need to be curious, hungry to learn, and ready to get stuck in. But it’s not just about technical expertise. You’ll need to:
Be studying towards a relevant degree discipline. This can be in any subject area, but motivation and attitude are important to us, and you will need to be able to demonstrate a passion for project management
Be able to commit to a 12-month placement, commencing in August 2022
Be able to evidence your passion for delivering projects, either through your university projects or as part of your extra-curricular activities
Be able to thrive in Dyson’s fast-paced environment
Knowledge of IT infrastructure and service management and an understanding of project management methodologies would advantageous.
Passionate about Dyson and our technology to help us meet our ambitious future plans
Above all, you’ll want to play a key part in bringing the next generation of Dyson technology to the world.
