About the role:

The Dyson Business Services (DBS) organization provides process and service excellence to support Dyson’s growth ambitions with a goal of innovating and enhancing services over time to meet the changing needs of the business.  The US Tax & Compliance Manager will be responsible for day-to-day tax and compliance operations for Dyson USA, while providing inspirational leadership to the tax and compliance team.

Accountabilities

Tax & Compliance

  • Lead the tax & compliance functions for the US market to optimize efficiency and ensure compliance

  • Provide oversight over multi-state sales tax reporting for three entities.  Ensure all returns are filed and reconciliations are completed timely and accurately

  • Manage Vertex system and update rates, forms, and sales tax data accordingly

  • Collaborate with Group on all aspects relating to the tax accounting function

  • Design team structure to maximize efficiency of tax processes

  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of 1099 filings and unclaimed property reports

  • Liaise with external tax preparers and Group Finance to ensure that federal & state income tax returns are filed timely and accurately.  Also coordinate the completion of the annual tax pack during year end

  • Ensure accuracy of Customs/Duty postings, filings and reconciliations, including month end close calculation

  • Own Unclaimed Property reporting and returns

  • Review, Sign Filings, and Pay (if applicable) Business Personal Property Returns

  • Responsible for New Business Licenses and Applications as well as subsequent renewals

  • Provide expertise to other Finance teams to continuously improve forecast accuracy

  • Ensure procedures conform to relevant accounting principles (US GAAP, IFRS, etc…)

  • Be open to other opportunities to take on new tasks, challenges, and projects

People Management

  • Develop and build a high performing team through effective team meetings and communications

  • Set functional objectives and longer-term goals in line with local/Group initiatives & requirements

  • Consistently monitor and track development and performance goals

  • Communicate in a clear, concise manner and create an atmosphere where people can express themselves       

  • Inspire confidence and motivate people by providing a balance of support and autonomy

  • Ensure that the broader team is engaged and motivated including being involved in decision making when relevant

Relationships

  • Develop effective relationships with Group Finance and Group Tax functions to ensure timely resolution of requests for information, issues, and projects

  • Collaborate cross functionally to identify, evaluate, and implement initiatives

  • Ensure backups are in place (when possible) for critical tasks within the team

Operational Efficiencies

  • Evaluate efficiency and relevance of processes

  • Streamline and demonstrate judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions

  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures documents

  • Support the implementation of operational improvements and develop workflow documentation to ensure up to date desk top procedures exist

Other

  • Fulfil any other ad hoc responsibilities as directed by the line manager

  • Relish the opportunity to pick up new activities that fall broadly in the purpose of the role

  • Support various Dyson initiatives/projects

  • Think outside of the box, identifying opportunities for improvement

  • Identify problems and find solutions

Skills

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required 

  • 7+ years’ experience in tax, with at least 5 years in a management/leadership role

  • Experience with SAP and Vertex preferred

  • Exhibit the customer centric mindset and the ability to manage tasks with competing priorities

  • Deadline driven, result focused and able to communicate effectively

  • Ability to organize and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

  • Advanced problem-solving skills

  • Highly motivated to achieve results

  • Good team player: capable of working effectively with finance and non-finance colleagues
