The Associate Communications Manager role is an integral part of Dyson’s global communications and local marketing teams. The role reports into the Senior Communications Manager and is supported by a PR Agency collaborating closely with teams across the business, both locally and internationally. Dyson engineers develop high performing technology, and the communications team creates storytelling opportunities with compelling content that land core narratives around our technology, philosophy and values.
About the Role
The Associate Communications Manager is a natural storyteller with a talent for demonstrating how our technology is superior, how it is developed, and why it works differently. Through compelling narratives, they convey our bold ambitions, risk-taking mindset, and engineering ethos. As a key member of the team, the Associate Communications Manager plays a critical role in delivering results and managing administrative tasks across both internal and external communications in Australia and New Zealand.
Ownership of core project components within Dyson’s PR and communications program such as Floor Care, Environmental Care, the James Dyson Award, and Internal Communications is key to this role. This includes creating and implementing strategies and fostering relationships that effectively communicate and support Dyson’s core technology, people, and philosophy.
Main responsibilities include but not limited to:-
Develop, manage and implement integrated communication / PR strategies and budgets for core project components of Dyson’s PR and communications program (e.g. Floor Care, Environmental Care, James Dyson Award, Internal Comms). This includes managing Dyson’s ANZ PR agency across NPD product launches and storytelling campaigns in alignment with Dyson ANZ stakeholders and Group communications
Proactively and reactively identify story opportunities and pitch to media, managing the message and weaving broader narratives around our technology, people, places and philosophies
Produce first class content in the form of press releases, interviews, social media etc. and manage the PR calendar and PR budget to cover product launches, campaigns, social media and events
Set robust KPIs and deliver accurate and timely evaluations of PR activities demonstrating the ability to meet set objectives and achieve results within budget and on time
Drive entries across ANZ for the James Dyson Award, an international design competition that celebrates, encourages and inspires the next generation of design engineers, a core part of Dyson DNA. The activity will include building university relations, conducting university visits, moderating online entries, engaging with student entrants and working with the PR agency to generate traditional and social media coverage to drive awareness
Collate PR results across all activities and communicate the value and impact of them to key stakeholders
Coordinate monthly "Café Briefings" (monthly staff meetings) for the ANZ business facilitating content development, stakeholder briefings and overseeing logistical aspects to ensure execution is consistently smooth
Strong event management capabilities to plan, execute and evaluate internal and external PR-related events for media, bloggers, influencers and industry professionals reflecting the high standards that Dyson is known for
About You
You will bring a go-getter attitude and the confidence to work closely with the management team. A key part of this role is educating the business on how media works, earning media coverage, building relationships with journalists, and providing insightful reporting. You should have a strong interest in current affairs and the media, coupled with a passion for technology and the categories we operate in.
Previous skills & experience:-
Solid PR experience in-house or agency side
Experience in technology PR, with a focus on home
Sound working knowledge of consumer branding, journalist relationships, corporate affairs, events management, sponsorship, traditional and new media
Experience working with other agency partners and stakeholders in an integrated way
Proven ability to multi-task and Juggle multiple clients / categories/briefs/projects
Ability to provide examples of producing clever solutions to adapt existing ideas and campaigns
First-class communication skills, both verbal and written, including strong presentation abilities
Strong project management abilities with outstanding organisational and planning capabilities
Deep understanding of the ANZ media and influencer landscape, with the ability to determine appropriate coverage for Dyson
Ability to motivate and maximise performance from agency partners
