About the Role

As an Associate Principal Battery Engineer, you will be instrumental in bridging product requirements with battery technology development. This role combines technical expertise in battery systems with strategic collaboration across the product business unit (BU), test teams, and suppliers to deliver exceptional battery solutions for Dyson’s products.

You will be responsible not only for driving testing and validation frameworks but also for working closely with internal stakeholders to deeply understand product requirements. Through collaboration with cross-functional teams such as hardware, software, and mechanical design, and with external suppliers, you will play a pivotal role in designing energy systems that meet Dyson’s rigorous standards for performance, reliability, and safety.

This hands-on role offers the opportunity to contribute throughout the product lifecycle, from the early design phases to qualification and integration, ensuring the delivery of world-class batteries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Business Units: Work closely with product BU representatives to understand specific requirements and translate them into robust battery design and testing strategies.

  • Develop Optimal Battery Solutions: Define workflows and validation methods for battery systems that align with product goals, ensuring world-class performance, efficiency, and reliability.

  • Drive Testing and Validation: Lead the execution of industry-standard battery verification and validation frameworks, including EVT (Engineering Validation Test), DVT (Design Validation Test), and PVT (Production Validation Test).

  • Battery Integration: Work across Dyson’s hardware, software, and mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration of battery systems into products.

  • Supplier Engagement: Partner with battery cell suppliers and equipment vendors to establish testing protocols, resolve technical issues, and drive innovation in battery chemistry and system performance.

  • Testing Facility Development: Lead the design and development of advanced battery labs, ensuring safety compliance, equipment readiness, and optimization for testing workflows.

  • Compliance and Certification: Ensure battery systems meet industry standards (e.g., IEC 62133, UL 1642) and Dyson’s internal benchmarks for safety and functionality.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze test data, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations to improve reliability and performance across systems.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements in testing methodologies and supplier workflows to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and accelerate project timelines.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Deliver detailed technical insights and reports to senior stakeholders, recommending solutions and strategies that elevate battery technology for Dyson products.

  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior engineers on best practices for battery testing, supplier collaboration, and innovation strategies.
