The expectation for this role is to be based in the new Philippine Technology Center at FPIP in Sto. Tomas Batangas, as soon as it is completed in 2024.

About the role

              Design Engineers have knowledge of own discipline and continues to develop higher level of knowledge & skills within the role. As part of a cross functional team, Design Engineers take a hands-on approach, using established processes and best practices to deliver user-focussed and robust solutions that meet design and project goals.


  • Have a clear understanding of the problem at hand and specify the design requirements (e.g. part level) with clear, specific and measurable objectives. Recognize any technical, cost, or regulatory constraints that may impact the feasibility of the design.
  • Have a clear understanding of own tasks. Robustly plan and prioritize tasks based on risk level, resolution, maturity, and interdependency of tasks. Coordinate with the work of others maximize learning and minimize waste.
  • Generate a range of design concepts and systematically evaluating each concept against the design requirements to identify the optimal solution.
  • Build rigs to evaluate the feasibility, usability, and functionality of the design.
  • Design and conduct investigative tests to identify design risks and determine the functional limits.
  • Prepare for design or technical reviews and participate in as required. Present the problem, proposed solution, risks and opportunities with clarity and precision.
  • Contribute to team, department or functional level change projects as needed, supporting efforts to enhance organizational efficiency or develop new capabilities.

About you:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering or scientific discipline or equivalent.
  • 2+ Years of experience in a relevant role, working on complex and challenging technical problems.
  • Able to identify potential risks associated with the design and develop strategies to mitigate or eliminate those risks.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the design is optimized for assembly, manufacturing, and cost.
  • Conduct thorough tolerance analysis to identify and quantify the impact of various sources of variability on the design. Develop strategies to reduce the tolerance sensitivity and ensure the final design can operate with acceptable performance at the production limits of the design parts.
  • Create detailed design specifications, including Engineering Bill of Materials, 3D models, CAD drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Desire to learn and gain understanding of relevant physics outside your own area of expertise, to suggest routes for achieving an optimized balance between different considerations.
  • Practical and methodical design development through analysis, prototyping and testing and has knowledge on product lifecycle.
  • Having a knowledge and understanding of relevant technologies, including manufacturing processes and their limitations.
  • Capable of performing hand calculations to provide initial design direction and confidence in simulation results.
  • Able to communicate appropriate, concise, and accurate information in written and verbal formats.
