About Us

The Technology Development Department (Haircare) comprises of engineering disciplines in Acoustic/ Fluid Dynamics /Materials / Structures /Thermodynamics /Vibration which delivers projects through one of the following teams (Performance, CAE or Technical systems). This managerial role looks to build up a new team in the Philippines with focus on hiring talent, setting up the right team culture & proposing ways of working with other departments. This role will also be responsible for leading teams delivering the overall performance of haircare products. 

About the Role

  • Manage the Simulation team in the Philippines, ensuring projects are adequately resourced with the right capabilities depending on the technical complexity 

  • Provide guidance to junior engineers and building up capabilities of the team.  

  • Ensure the team is executing simulation work in accordance with the department’s transformational goals, driving key design decisions using technical data. Run periodic reviews with the simulation team to ensure credible output of technical work. 

  • Work with cross function teams to define and/or improve ways of working to ensure strong collaboration within the project teams.  

  • Grow the team’s simulation capabilities through processes and external training to ensure the team remains at the forefront of simulation with respect to the industry. 

  • Ensure simulation models are credible and used to enable business efficiency next generation, evolutionary products or post develop activities. 

About You

  • Holding a Masters/PhD in FEA, Structural Engineering or CAE and significant understanding of the cross-disciplines. 

  • At least 8-10 years of product development experience and have delivered solutions to multiple high risk & complex technical issues; preferably worked in Dyson for at least 5 years to be in-tuned with development process and ways of working with various departments. 

  • A recognized technical expert in the field with the ability to bring in cutting edge knowledge and analytical techniques into Dyson from the external industry.  

  • An expert in various problem-solving capabilities (simulation, experimental & analytical techniques) related to the field of interest and passionate about growing said capabilities in Dyson to help achieve the company’s vision. 

  • A mix of engineering and people management. 

  • Taking responsibility for delivering multiple engineering projects by allocating the engineers with the right skillset / potential. 

  • Work with the technical pillar to grow the capability of the team as the business requires. 

  • Line management, 121s, performance management, personal development of staff. 

Technical and problem-solving skills: 

  • Able to gather information systematically to establish facts and principles required to solve complex problems spanning across multiple projects and/or fields, typically without precedents. 

  • Demonstrates the ability to assess multiple viewpoints/argument independently and determine technical direction spanning a few wider cross functional areas in RDD and the wider business. 

  • Expert in root cause analysis techniques and able to utilize skill in problems spanning a number of wider cross-functional areas in RDD and the wider business. 

  • Able to coach engineers to advanced level. 

  • Able to manage technical risk proficiently, covering risk identification, risk analysis, risk response and risk monitoring. Often delving deeply into more complex, integrated & interwoven system risks often with significant impact across the wider RDD function. Expected to set directions for risk response, which may have significant impact spanning regions/projects/categories. Primary figure in FMEA sessions, taking leading role in sessions. 

Interpersonal skills: 

  • Demonstration of strong written & verbal communication skills. Ability to clearly, concisely & confidently present & articulate ideas to large multifunction, cross-category teams incorporating Senior Management, often Executive/VP level. Expertise in providing clear & concise communication of complex ideas and concepts, with tailored communication for all different levels of the business. Expertise in persuading & influencing at all levels, including Exec/Senior Management. 

  • Ensure cooperation and interaction across diverse stakeholders, often managing conflicting interests and/ or demanding customers. 

  • Demonstrate proficiency in coaching others and recognised as a driver for professional development. 

Extent of guidance or control: 

  • Generally, characterised as a "Leader" with the ability to conceptually interpret and guide departmental programs 

  • Participates in establishing organizational goals and guidelines for the work to be performed.
