About The Role:
Reporting into the APAC Comms Director, the Head of Communications for Dyson Japan will lead on planning, executing and evaluating a wide range of external and internal communications activities. They will work closely with internal department heads, the Leadership Team and external PR, influencer and events agencies. In addition to having a strategic focus, the role requires hands-on execution, leveraging a broad network of contacts to deliver quality outputs.
Our high-profile reputation helps grow our business by indirectly selling our technology and positions Dyson as a great place to work. We are looking for a dynamic and passionate communications leader to develop and execute integrated communications plans that position Dyson as the leader in engineering, innovation technology and education – leveraging on Dyson narratives.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, the individual will deploy our stories strategically through press, influencers, KOLs, social media, events and internal communications to build and protect our reputation, acting swiftly in the event of potential issues or crisis situations.
The successful candidate will have an excellent ability to build and affect cultural change and mindset - at both a people and process level, to demonstrate skill and comfort in building relationships with senior leadership team members, and in-market people to influence and engage people up, down and across the organisation in order to bring about change. The role requires demonstrated experience in managing comprehensive communications programs to advance an organisation’s mission and goals. This will be an active and challenging role that requires a forward thinking and proactive ability.
For this role, Dyson Japan is seeking a resourceful and natural storyteller who is an "out the box thinker", digitally savvy and with a data-driven mindset who can drive transformation for Dyson Japan. The ideal candidate has a proven experience in the technology industry and expertise across traditional as well as social media, showing passion for engaging with press, influencers and KOLs. They will be a highly motivated person who embraces change and is ready to pivot at pace. The willingness to experiment and invite feedback are crucial components for success in this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Communications
- Set progressive, yet strategic communications plan thinking out of box, against convention.
- Transform communications approach to Dyson beauty and audio in Japan, based on a deep understanding of traditional, social media and influencer landscapes.
- Understand business objectives, align communications objectives and demonstrate value of communications outputs to maximise impact and ROI.
- Knowledge and continuous monitoring of main competitors
- Generation and localisation of communications materials (press releases, reactive statement, media brief, speeches, briefs, Q&A, statement etc)
- Event planning skills: organize digital/physical events to ensure the Dyson narrative lands successfully internally and externally Identify the right product placement opportunities, following up on content creation and maximizing visibility
- Keep abreast of emerging trends, technologies and influencers
- Accountability, accuracy and efficiency with communications budget management
- Accurate data management and reporting of communications results
Leadership
- Drive a comprehensive program to advance Dyson’s mission and goals across product, corporate and internal communications for Japan – launching products, sustaining products, thought leadership and SEA Commercial team engagement
- Be an active and engaged member of the Japan Leadership Team, to drive high performance culture and meaningful change across the business
- As part of the APAC Communications Leads group – build strong working relationships with other local departments, Group and other markets’ Communications teams across APAC and beyond, team sharing priorities, strategies, assets and best practices/learnings
Communication skills
- Devise and implement excellent internal and external communications strategies focused on telling stories around our core technology, our machines, our corporate stories, our people and places and the Dyson philosophy.
- Show in depth knowledge and experience of the Japan media landscape, for both traditional and social media: Drive the continuation and development of new formats and platforms in interaction with internal and external stakeholders. Be it online, on social media channels, as well as in traditional media.
- Identify emerging issues, trends and opportunities facing the organization and design strategies to manage their impact including crisis management.
- Resource management, engaging top resource to fuel Dyson Japan Communications with best-in-class ideas and implementation
About You:
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in communications field, with proven track record delivering high impact results under fast changing environment via new ways of PR.
- Proven track record of leading culture building
- Ability to build and effect change - at both a people and process level.
- Demonstrated skill and comfort in building relationships with top tier editors, influencers and KOLs
- Ability to come up with new ideas and inventive ways to promote Dyson
- Thrives in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
- Evidence of experience in managing a comprehensive communications program to advance an organization’s mission and goals
- Superior management skills: ability to influence and engage people up, down and across the organization to bring about change. Excellent time management and prioritization skills for the individual and their team
- An understanding and passion for Dyson technology, design and engineering and a sense of what makes Dyson and its people tick.
- Excellent storytelling ability, brilliant interpersonal skills and robust commercial understanding.
- Ability to inspire and manage talented teams in Dyson Japan.
- Unafraid to challenge, be challenged, and ask/answer difficult questions.
- Ability to receive feedback positively and act upon it
- Fluent in English, native in Japanese
