About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Customs EMEA to lead our customs strategy, compliance, and operations within the region.
As the Head of Customs EMEA, you will play a key role in shaping and driving the customs strategy across the region. This is a strategic yet hands-on role where you’ll oversee compliance, improve processes, manage audits, and lead a talented team. Reporting to the Global Customs Director, you will collaborate across multiple business functions and engage directly with authorities to represent and protect Dyson’s interests.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership of EMEA Customs Function:
Oversee and mentor the EMEA customs team, including remote team members in the UK.
Align regional customs strategies with global directives, customizing solutions to meet local requirements.
Promote a culture of compliance, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Customs Compliance and Operational Efficiency:
Ensure adherence to EU (UCC) and UK customs regulations, optimizing processes for better efficiency.
Stay updated on regulatory changes and evaluate their impact on Dyson’s EMEA operations.
Enhance and standardize customs-related SOPs, ensuring consistency with other regions.
Leverage duty-saving mechanisms (e.g., Free Trade Agreements) to optimize import/export activities.
Audit and Authority Management:
Lead and manage customs audits and inquiries, defending Dyson’s position and negotiating favorable outcomes.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with customs authorities across the region.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with Manufacturing, RDD, Procurement, Supply Chain, Legal, and Finance teams to integrate customs requirements into business operations.
Manage customs brokers, oversee their performance, and assist Procurement in negotiating contracts.
Provide expert customs advice to internal stakeholders and engage external advisors as necessary.
Strategic Projects and Initiatives:
Identify and drive process improvement opportunities to enhance customs operations.
Support business partners in EMEA markets to uncover value-adding opportunities.
Work with the Export Control Manager to ensure compliance with export control regulations.
About you
Extensive experience of relevant customs with deep knowledge of EU (UCC) and UK customs regulations.
Fluent in Dutch, with the ability to negotiate effectively with customs authorities.
Fluent in English, the working language of the organization.
Proven expertise in managing audits, negotiating with authorities, and defending organizational positions.
Experience in classification, valuation, origin, preferences, and special customs authorizations (e.g., AEO).
Previous experience in a multinational environment, handling complex, cross-border customs issues.
Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and manage high-performing teams.
Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing and collaborating with stakeholders at all levels.
Strategic thinker with the ability to dive into operational details when necessary.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, focused on process improvement and efficiency.
