This position sits within the Product Performance team in our Home product category, part of Dyson’s world class Research, Design and Development (RDD) department. We are a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to developing the cutting-edge technologies that enable market leading performance in our products to win the hearts of our users. We own and deliver the primary user-facing systems of our Home category products. This includes our floor cleaning systems, separation & filtration systems, and electro-mechanical intelligent systems.

About the role

As a member of the Product Performance team, your main responsibility will be to develop product performance systems from early concepts to mass production. You will own the system, and work with internal and external partners from various functions to design, integrate, verify, validate and deliver the system on spec, time, quality and cost.

Your core day-to-day responsibilities will be to:

  • Conduct fundamental studies to build subject matter expertise in product performance technologies and systems, understanding the critical factors and limits of the systems

  • Scope and translate product business targets into product performance system requirements

  • Break down, plan and execute the work packages to develop product performance systems throughout the product development lifecycle

  • Design solutions to optimise product performance using a mixture of simulation, prototyping and experimentation

  • Define design specifications and production control specifications to implement the product performance design solutions and ensure product performance requirements are met

  • Proactively identify and manage risks, troubleshooting and resolving issues that occur

  • Develop test methods and influence verification, validation and manufacturing test plans for product performance systems

  • Manage communications and collaborations with partners and stakeholders

As a Lead Engineer, you will also be expected to:

  • Lead a team of internal and/or external partners to deliver product performance systems

  • Mentor and/or manage junior members of the team

  • Champion and advance the technical knowledge, capabilities, processes and best practices of the team to drive technical excellence

About you

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A degree or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline

  • Experience in developing mechanical or electro-mechanical systems in consumer products

  • Demonstrated skills in one or more of the following areas: mechanical design, fluid dynamics, filtration, programming, data acquisition, signal processing, data analysis, statistics, image processing, machine learning, simulation, systems thinking, failure analysis

  • Proficiency with one or more of the following tools and methodologies: CAD, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, NI DAQs, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, Arduino, Minitab, 8D problem solving, Lean Six Sigma, FMEA

  • Clear logical and critical thinking, with an attention to detail and deep passion for good design

  • High drive, strong sense of ownership, and ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment with a growth mindset

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to lead, collaborate, and manage stakeholders in English. Mandarin is a plus
