Overview:
The Technology Development department comprises of diverse groups of curious, world class engineering specialists. We are experts in our fields, and we ensure Dyson products are on the edge of what’s possible. This role is within the Acoustics and Vibration team, responsible in delivering customer-pleasing products that are quiet and easy to handle.
This role will suit someone who is looking to be a key contributor to product delivery, and work with the best engineers from different sites and functions. Have access to best-in-class laboratory, equipment and analytical tools. Work on end-to-end product delivery by; managing requirements, developing test methods and executing test plans, developing manufacturing controls and most importantly contributing to the technology landscape of Dyson products.
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
Technical
Able to lead a team of engineers to resolve complex technical challenges efficiently, providing directions with an in-depth knowledge of acoustics and vibration.
Provides technical direction to gather required information before arriving at a conclusion/proposal for the project while having sight of cost and time.
Has advanced technical understanding in other disciplines involved in technology and product development to resolve cross disciplinary issues.
Able to prioritise/delegate multiple tasks by understanding impact of risks/issues to the project with available resource or formulate a strong justification for more resource.
Able to pre-empt design risks to projects during early stages of the development using analytical and simulation tools and provide recommendations for design solutions.
Able to create/improve measurement/analysis capabilities used by the team.
Process
Responsible for requirements management, FMEA and failure/root cause analysis, to drive vision performance for the project and/or create specifications where required to achieve the products’ vision.
Manages work packages and plans out detailed activities to deliver required project maturity. Keeps track of things and can manage multiple projects.
Supports Dyson’s vision of ‘Solving Problems First’ by executing lean projects where necessary.
Works with technician to plan tests for timely delivery of results to projects.
Career development
Responsible for individual development plan, career path planning with line manager, analysing key gaps that requires closure. Self-initiating to learn and a mindset for continuous improvement.
Contributes to the capability build-up of the site, via coaching of junior engineers, graduates or interns.

Able to communicate risks and issues with clear plan of actions to stakeholders.
Cooperates well with other departments/functions to support the organisational goals.
Problem solving
Able to have a balanced approach between simulation and experiments to provide solutions.
Able to assess multiple arguments for a complex problem and derive the best solution, whilst managing expectation of stakeholders.
Actively identifies areas of improvements with proposal(s) on achieving improvements.
Experience Required:
At least a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aerodynamics/Acoustic engineering or equivalent. Master’s degree an advantage.
5+ years of experience in mechanical product design & development in the field of acoustic and vibration, preferably in the consumer electrical appliance industry.
Highly competent in acoustic engineering, mechanical vibration, signal processing with a good working knowledge of fluid dynamics and statistical analysis.
Experience on measurement hardware and software for data acquisition, such as B&K Pulse, HEAD Acoustics, MATLAB, COMSOL and LabVIEW. Strong knowledge in at least one of the above or equivalent is preferred.
Competent in the use and application of CAD/CAE tools in general. Experience in UG/NX and ANSYS suite of products is preferred.
Extent of guidance or control:
Generally characterized as an “Independent Contributor”.
Self-driven to resolve large work packages assigned and/or personally derived.
