Exceptional power
Our digital motors are what enable our technology to be different – it's why they're protected by so many patents. But the next generation of power systems demands new direction. Energy storage, robotics, nanotechnology and space-age materials. So our multi-disciplinary team, led by some of the world's best power electronics engineers, knows that only the most pioneering thinking will do. That's the Dyson way.
Power Electronics and Energy Storage
Dyson's Power Electronics and Energy Storage engineers work as a multidisciplinary team to develop safe and reliable battery packs for Dyson's cordless range of products, as well as drive hardware for Hyperdynium™ motor technologies. The team brings new Dyson machines to life, from the earliest prototypes to mass manufacturing of fully certified machines, using expertise in Lithium-Ion cell and battery technology, power electronics, and embedded software.
Motor Drives and Advanced Control Systems
The Motor Drives and Advanced Control team applies deep, specialist knowledge to design and develop control algorithms and electromagnetic designs used in Dyson's products. The Dyson Hyperdynium™ motor, brush bar motors, traction motors, fan motors, heaters, protective systems, and product-level behaviours are all driven by these control systems. Our teams are located across the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines with skills in electromagnetic design, classical control theory, machine learning, embedded software, simulation, advanced automated test and verification and manufacturing.
Mechanical Motor Engineering
Dyson has pioneered the development of high-speed motor-compressors for our products, and we look forward to building on the advantages of new materials, manufacturing processes and miniaturisation. We are looking for specialists in structural dynamics, thermo and fluid dynamics, turbomachinery, and acoustics; we also need great mechanical design engineers who can thoughtfully combine all those specialisms.
Turbomachinery
Dyson’s turbomachinery experts enable our Hyperdymium™ motors to deliver the most efficient aerodynamic design. We use advanced simulation techniques to stretch the limits of design and performance, while keeping high volume manufacturing in mind. Our team creates robust and cost-effective solutions that can be scaled effectively to deliver world leading technology that delights the owners of Dyson machines.
Rotordynamics
Dyson Hyperdymium™ motors have a world leading speed to power density ratio that enables our machines to deliver top class performance to our customers. Rotor dynamicists fine-tune our motor designs so they can be pushed to high speeds with minimum vibration and noise. The team optimises designs across a huge range of frequencies for smooth operation, so our owners get the best possible experience from their Dyson machines.
Project Management
Our Power Systems project managers play a crucial role in leading and delivering technology projects instrumental to Dyson's next generation products, influencing a multi-disciplinary team of engineers across our Engineering and Operations functions. They are experts in project delivery and communicating status, risk and technical progress to senior management whilst interacting with key stakeholders in the engineering, operations and quality teams, as well as key suppliers.
Data Science
Dyson’s data scientists and data engineers work on interdisciplinary projects to find and explore opportunities to connect physical sciences and machine learning. The team works on everything from large scale manufacturing data to data from small lab experiments. Creativity, curiosity, and innovative thinking enables us to apply new machine learning to help solve engineering problems. We are continually expanding and looking for people with a variety of skills, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, data engineers and data analysts that will enable us to widen our impact across the business.
